3rd Generation
- Jay & Mark Weinberger |
Weinberger's Furniture Showcase has been a family tradition and an Augusta
landmark for 71 years. Abe Fogel opened Augusta Furniture Market on Broad
Street in 1932 and built the store into a symbol of good quality and personal
service that has never wavered in seven decades.
A young Gene Weinberger came to work for him
and eventually joined the family as well as
the business. He came to take over the business
from his father-in-law and grew the company
for 50 years.
It was Gene who moved Augusta's leading
furniture store from downtown to its current
spacious location at 3137 Washington Road in
1976.
"I remember working for dad when I was
about 10-years old," said Jay Weinberger,
who with his brother Mark, bought the family
business 12 years ago.
"I was sweeping the floor and cleaning
the bathrooms," Jay remembered in fun recently.
"Dad told me I had to start at the bottom
and I said, "but dad, this is below the bottom!"
The two sons have come a long ways since their
"bottom dwelling' days, building on
their father's and grandfather's foundation
to make Weinberger's Furniture Showcase
the most recognized and respected furniture
store in the entire region.
"We have the most experienced staff in
the area, including four people with over 20
years experience in the furniture business,"
Jay said. "It's important to have
an experienced person to help you visualize
what will look best in your home."
Weinberger's has a wonderful selection
of fine rugs, mirrors, lamps, art work, mattresses,
recliners. Weinberger's has such an array
of styles, from an exotic Roman-style leather
chaise to fine traditional Southern style furniture
to a striking tile topped modern table.
"Our philosophy for 70 years," Jay
said, "is that we offer discount prices
on quality name brand furniture. That is the
way our grandfather and our father ran their
businesses, and that is the way that my brother
and I do business today."
